All things new
Posted by: brismo on September 22, 2010 at 11:00AM UMDT

Frequent readers may have noticed that I haven’t been updating the blog regularly. I apologize for that. And here’s why.

In addition to the new baby and returning to work, we have recently moved to a new home.

Our first home was a dime a dozen – a 900 square foot ranch built in the 1950’s with a nicely refinished basement. It was small, but that was just fine five years ago when it was just Tony and me. And our cat.

It’s funny how tiny babies – unable to do anything other than eat, cry and poop – need a ton of stuff. Before we knew it, Max and Logan’s shared bedroom was full to the brim with a crib, a toddler bed, a dresser, a chair, toys, books and who knows what else.

So during the last few weeks of my maternity leave, we fixed up the house, found a new one, and bought it without selling our first home. I felt totally at peace about it for some reason. And luckily, the “little house” (as Max calls it) sold in less than two weeks.

Whoa.

So as I returned to work last month, I began spending every lunch hour just trying to keep up. My realtor is my mom, so that made things easier. And convenient.

When it came time to move, we went the more affordable route and borrowed trucks and help instead of hiring movers - against the advice of many of my friends from the Herald & Review.

And let me tell you – I would never want to do that again.

We cashed in a lot of favors and wore our family down considerably during the last few weeks. (Thanks everybody.)

Although we may have saved a few hundred dollars, none of us are getting any younger, and we paid the price of aching backs, strained shoulders and extra stress.

Max did his part, though. He wanted desperately to help fill the trucks and trailers we borrowed, so he made sure to be underfoot, asking adorable questions and carrying one toy at a time into the trucks.

Little Logan just waited patiently, smiling and enjoying the activity.

Both of my little boys have been patient and well-behaved during this stressful time. I feel so blessed.

And now, as we begin the journey of finding our stuff in the cardboard jungle in the new garage, I’m looking forward to enjoying each other’s company in the new home.

First order of business: celebrate Max’s third birthday this weekend.
